The Plan to Change

U.P. Baseball & Softball League
This is a tentative outline of what this independent League would look like.
Further Board meetings will shape this organization.

U.P. Baseball & Softball Board of Directors
Comprised of: 
President (1 Vote)
Area Vice-President (1 Vote)
Secretary 
(1 Vote)
Treasurer (1 Vote)
Area Representative (1 Vote)
Area Representative (1 Vote)
For example the 2019 Area's were:
BDP, Crystal Falls, Florence, Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, North Central North Dickinson, Norway, Vulcan


League’s Responsibility:
  • Create and maintain Area Boundaries for each Area.
  • Make sure Players either live within the Area Boundary or attend school within the Area Boundary.
  • Create common rules of the game for each area to follow.  (Currently Inter-League Rules)
  • Purchase sufficient insurance for the League.
  • Hold a Rules meeting each February for the upcoming season.
  • Write a regular season schedule.  May 1st till the end of June.
  • Conduct an end of year All U.P. Tournament.  Starting after the 4th of July and to be concluded by mid July.
  • Teams in the All U.P. Tournament will come from All U.P. Areas.  For example of All U.P. Areas:  
    • (Norway and Vulcan)
    • (Iron County, Iron Mountain and North Dickinson)
    • (North Central, Pembine and Niagara).
This would change from year to year as the number of teams in each area fluctuates.  The Board would determine the All U.P. Areas.

Area Responsibilities

  • Attend League Board Meetings.
  • Register players for their respective Area.
  • Be financially responsible for their Area; sponsors, equipment, fields, etc.  Apart from paying the League a small fee to cover insurance, each Area will maintain and be responsible for their own finances.
  • If needed each Area can open their own checking account under the U.P. Baseball & Softball EIN number.

Some items that need to be figured out this winter:
Team Divisions
Baseball

  • 7-8 Starter League  (Minimum age 6)
  • 9-10 Minor League  (Minimum age 8)
  • 11-12 Major League  (Minimum age 9)
  • 13-14 Junior League  (Minimum age 13)
Softball
  • 8-10 Minor League  (Minimum age 7)
  • 9-12 Major League  (Minimum age 9)
  • 13-14 Junior League (Minimum age 13)

Player Age

  • All Players age is their age as of May 1st.

Pitch Counts, innings or pitches thrown.
We can choose to follow Little League Rules or NFHS and modify them as the Board sees fit.
